  • Retired Colonel in USAF with >7000 hours in >50 types of aircraft and 550 combat missions in Vietnam
  • Logged 455 hours in space as pilot for Orbiter Challenger, and spacecraft commander aboard Discovery and Atlantis
  • Astronaut Office Representative at Kennedy Space Center for first space shuttle flights
  • Chief, Astronaut Training, Member of Orbiter Configuration Control Board and Space Shuttle Program Control Board
  • Member or past member of Society of Experimental Test Pilots, American Helicopter Society, Air Force Academy Association of Graduates, the National Technical Association, the Tuskegee Airmen, the Order of the Daedalians, and the Association of Space Explorers
  • Distinguished Executive in the Senior Executive Service; Air Force and DOD, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, 16 Air Medals, 2 Distinguished Flying Crosses, Legion of Merit, Defense Superior Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, National Intelligence Medal; NASA, 3 Space Flight Medals, 2 Outstanding Leadership Medals, Distinguished Service Medal; the United States Air Force Academy Distinguished Graduate Award; the George Washington University Distinguished Alumni Award; National Society of Black Engineers Distinguished National Scientist Award; President's Medal, Charles R.
