Summer Concert Series Begins
June 20!
The Annapolis Maritime Museum seeks to connect the richness of the maritime heritage of the Annapolis area with our local youth and adults. The Museum operates from a waterside campus on the shores of Back Creek, with unequaled views of Annapolis Harbor and the Chesapeake Bay.
The Museum campus is the site of the last remaining oyster packing plant in the area, the McNasby's Oyster Packing Company. The McNasby building was severely damaged by Hurricane Isabel in 2003, but has been restored, thanks to community support, as the Bay Experience Center -- an interactive facility like no other. It is now home to our signature exhibit, "Oysters on the Half Shell." Programming, such as our popular summer concert series and winter lecture series, continues.
The Museum's activities have grown through the years with community support and sheer determination, first in our other campus building, the 650 square-foot Barge House, restored through volunteer efforts and in-kind donations, and now in the McNasby building. The Museum is host to meetings, community events, lectures, concerts, and children's educational activities. It is the launching point for the Museum's tours to
the iconic Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse -- the most famous symbol of the upper Chesapeake Bay.
With a great deal of community support, the Museum has continued to do great things -- full steam ahead! We have accomplished much and there are big plans in the offing. Join us. Participate in history and in keeping history alive.
The second printing of Over the Bridge: A History of Eastport at Annapolis, a 368-page hardback by Ginger Doyel, is in! If you didn't get your copy because we sold out of the first printing, call us now. Read more about the book.
Thank you for donating during the Great Give!
May 17, 2013--The Annapolis Maritime Museum is absolutely tickled about, pleased by, and grateful for the astounding response our members and friends displayed in the Great Give Annapolis that concluded last night at 7 p.m.
Our goal for the event was an optimistic "wouldn't it be great" $5,000, but the final results showed a wonderful total of $6,340 from 39 donors. Wow!
Some of the donors have never before supported the Museum's programs. Some have been philanthropic for decades. All showed by their gifts that they care about the Museum's programs and future.
"Perhaps the most affirming aspect of the Great Give," stated a thrilled Eric Rubin, Board Chair, "is the sense the event produced that the public interest in -- and trust in -- our programs have increased significantly."
Alice Estrada, Executive Director, noted, "The funds raised in merely one day will allow us to expand and refine our programs to respect the heritage of the Chesapeake, to educate school children to take an active and informed role in improving the conditions in the Bay and its watersheds, and to collaborate to provide a brighter future for the entire ecosystem."
On behalf of the community of the Annapolis Maritime Museum -- Board, professionals, volunteers, collaborating local agencies, businesses. and neighbors -- THANK YOU!

Boats of the Bay
– Local art promoter Dave Murphy has gathered together a group of 12 local artists, including Lee Boynton and Carolyn Councell, whose works interpret all types of vessels that make the Bay their home. In various media they all tell the tale of the way we work and play on the Chesapeake Bay. Exhibit runs from April 24 to June 30.
