A new exhibit opening August 6 features 'Water Views' by six area artists

The new art exhibit at the Annapolis Maritime Museum's Bay Room features oil paintings and photography by six area artists who met almost a decade ago while plein-aire painting under the tutelage of art professor Richard Niewerth. In a total of thirty works, the show highlights the work of Niewerth, Barbara Brogan, Angela and Stanley Lemon, John Markowski and Viola McAvey (Her "Spa Creek Reflections" is pictured, right.). "This show celebrates the beauty of our waters and the splendor of our region through the eyes of this 'band of painting friends,'" McAvey explains.

Meet the artists at the opening reception on Thursday, August 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Bay Room in the newly renovated McNasby Oyster Company building, then stay for a concert in the adjacent Cap'n Herbie Sadler Waterman's Park featuring Deanna Dove, the "Island Girl of the Bay." Both events are free and open to the public.
