FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - September 23, 2009

At Work on the Water
Photographs by Kathy Bergren Smith at Annapolis Maritime Museum
Opening Reception Sept. 25, 2009, 6-8 p.m.

beach fishing, cape henryMaritime photographer  Kathy Bergren Smith is one a few professionals who trains her lens on the working waterfront. Smith shoots shipping, commercial fishing and tugboat operations. Her work opens a door onto a world hidden to those outside these industries.

At Work on the Water is a collection of muted color photographs of the Chesapeake Bay from a very different perspective. Smith takes viewers into the wheelhouse of a tugboat on the busy waterways of Hampton Roads, into the cockpit of a tiny plane spotting menhaden schools and onto the serene waters of the Potomac with poundnetters.

The exhibit opens on September 25 with a reception from 6-8 p.m. at the Annapolis Maritime Museum located in the historic McNasby’s Oyster House at the foot of Second Street in Eastport.
