Annapolis Maritime Museum will present the second in a series of family-oriented programs on Saturday, February 26, this one geared for grandparents with grandchildren in grades 1 – 6.
There will be two sessions, from 10 a.m. – noon and again from 1 – 3 p.m. Each session will have four different stations where families can learn together about the Chesapeake Bay ecology and the special roll played by oysters, horseshoe crabs, and watermen.
The program is based on the Museum’s innovative program, “MUDDY FEET” (Maritime Unbounded Damp & Dirty Yucky Fun Environmental Education & Training), which has served more than 1,200 students over the past school year. Grandchildren and grandparents will team up to learn about horseshoe crabs, explore an oyster reef, step into a waterman’s boots and use a set of hand tongs to “harvest” oyster shells, engage in NOAA’s “Build-a-Buoy” activity, and have fun with crafts.
Admission is $10 for each adult, $5 for each child. Space is limited. Register in advance at www.amaritime.org or call 410-295-0104.
