Annapolis Arts Alliance juried exhibit to open with reception on April 12

The Annapolis Arts Alliance will hold its annual juried exhibit at the Annapolis Maritime Museum from April 13 through May 18. Open to all Arts Alliance members, the exhibit will feature maritime-related art in all forms,  including oils, watercolors, collages, photographs, glass, and sculpture. The opening reception will be held at the Museum on Thursday, April 12, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and will be open to the public, free of charge.

“Schooners: Get set, go!” by Frank Brennan“We are really looking forward to this new event and working with the Maritime Museum,” said Arts Alliance president Selma Manizade. “I cannot think of a better fit than our members working with one of the premier historic spots in town.” The Annapolis Arts Alliance is an organization dedicated to all the arts.

“Whether you are a professional or amateur artist, a patron of the arts, a visitor or a resident in our capital city, the Annapolis Arts Alliance provides a forum to network, collaborate, polish creative skills, and showcase the rich artistic life of Greater Annapolis,” Ms. Manizade explains. The Alliance supports resource identification, information dissemination, arts education and event programs, and provides a collective voice for the Annapolis arts community.

The Annapolis Arts Alliance had its beginnings in 2003 when Mayor Ellen Moyer extended an invitation to a diverse group of locals involved in the arts community. She cast her net wide into the artistic world, bringing together representatives from visual arts, dance, music, theatre, written word and the business community surrounding the arts.

“We encourage anyone in the community who is not a member of the Alliance and would like to participate to join us,” says Ms. Manizade. Membership applications are on the website at  annapolis-arts-alliance.com. The applications for the exhibit will be accepted by e-mail or by mail through Wednesday, March 28. The application can also be downloaded from the Annapolis Arts Alliance website. In addition, a limited number of entries from members’ children, ages 8-to-17, will be accepted. There is no charge for children’s entries.

Artwork must be brought to the Museum on April 2, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. or April 3, between 9 a.m. and 1p.m. for the jurors’ consideration. Show entries must be maritime-related. For additional information, contact show coordinator Frank Brennan at fpbrennan@verizon.net.
