“To inspire an appreciation of history through understanding how our predecessors were much like us -- in this we share a common mission with the Annapolis Maritime Museum,” says David. This husband and wife team has, since 1980, helped bring back to life the early musical culture of our port city and beyond. A decade ago they co-founded the Colonial Music Institute to promote research and educational outreach.
David and Ginger Hildebrand present concerts and educational programs throughout the United States for museums, historical societies and sites, as well as at universities for graduate and undergraduate students. They appear frequently at Colonial Williamsburg and Mount Vernon. Their music is featured on movies and television documentaries, including the PBS series “Liberty! The American Revolution,” “Rediscovering George Washington,” and the C-SPAN Series “American Presidents.”
The Winter Maritime Concert Series is sponsored by the Chesapeake Music Institute, the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County, the Colonial Music Institute, the City of Annapolis, and the members of the Annapolis Maritime Museum.
Experience the Music of Peter Mayer & Scott Kirby
during an acoustic evening of songs and the stories behind them
Tuesday, March 3, 6 p.m.
presented by The Boatyard Bar & Grill, together with the Annapolis Maritime Museum
Peter Mayer, Guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, Peter Mayer has been quietly and steadily building a fervent following across the country, stepping outside his role as one of Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefers to front his own band, The Peter Mayer Group. Melding a unique and eclectic writing style, a distinctive voice, and virtuoso musicianship, Peter and his band create compelling and accessible music that is electrifying in live performance.
Scott Kirby spent most of the eighties working as a political consultant in his native state of New Hampshire, as well as playing a few solo gigs on the weekends. In 1988, he left his job, packed his guitar, cashed in his last three paychecks and headed for the Florida Keys, to take a break from the real world and New England's bitter winters. After living in Key West for 15 years, Scott finds himself splitting his time between New Hampshire, Key West and the road, where he has actively been promoting his newest release, 4 Good Dogs. A fingerstyle guitarist and singer/songwriter, Kirby's musical style weaves from pop, to acoustic rock, to what he refers to as "beach folk." His lyrics are often storytelling in nature, much in the vein of Steve Goodman or Jerry Jeff Walker, and reflect the humor of someone who fled traditional New England for the laid back and zany lifestyle of America's southernmost island town. When back in Key West, Scott occasionally performs at The Hog's Breath Saloon, The Pier House, and occasionally at Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville Café. Jimmy Buffett's online radio station, Radio Margaritaville, has broadcast a number of the IslandFest shows live, in addition to including much of Scott's material in their regular programming.

Enjoy an evening of original Eastern Shore bluegrass as Chester River Runoff performs at the Museum’s New Winter Maritime Concert series from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, February 22, in the Bay Room of the newly restored McNasby Oyster Company building.

Chester River Runoff plays music that is continuously evolving from their inception in the fall of 2004 when four young musicians from divergent musical backgrounds decided to master the driving bluegrass that they all had loved. Together they have established a country bluegrass sound that echoes in the wide open spaces of the Chesapeake, carrying it to venues and radio airwaves across the region. They have grown from a small-town string band that relied more on humor than prowess, to a dynamic bluegrass band. With a confluence of styles and interests that flow together, they continue to develop a style that is all their own. High energy shows, and their ability to connect with an audience through sincere originals and unique takes on traditional music make a CRR concert a memorable experience.
